Lost Socks DIY

As promised: our first DIY post. So we're starting simple--

Lost socks are nobody's friend (maybe with the exception of knitters, though, because socks without partners go straight to my 'material to repurpose' stack, and end up in stuffed animals as beanbags).

And separated socks are just as useless as lost ones. Half a pair ends up in the wash one week, the other half the next week, and then you've gone and lost the sock from the first week because you put it somewhere you told yourself you would remember, but don't, and now you have missing socks, and no full pairs, and your feet go cold.

Which is why this DIY is so useful. To give your lonely socks a home where they can wait out the remainder of their single days

Here's what you're going to need:

- 1 Wooden Panel (I got mine from Michael's woodworking section, and it already had the top piece of twine attached for hanging)

- Additional Twine

- Hot Glue

- Clothespins (since my wooden panel is small, I chose to use mini clothespins)

- Pencil

- Sharpie

Let's get started!

1. If your wooden sign does not already have a way to hang it: cut a length of twine, and hot glue either end to the top half of the back of the board

2. With a pencil, stencil in your sign along the top half of the front of the wood. Mine says "Seeking Solemates," but other popular slogans include "Lost Socks," "Single and Looking for a Mate," and, of course "Free Dobby," for the Harry Potter fans

3. Once you're happy with the slogan and placement you've chosen, go over your pencil lines in Sharpie or another indelible ink.

4. Cut a second length of twine one or two inches longer than the length of your board. Hot glue one end of the twine in the middle of the lower half of the wood on the left side of the back of the board. Once dry, pull the twine tight over the lower half of the wood on the front side of the board and hot glue it to the right side of the back of the board so it mirrors the left side's positioning.

5. Once both sides have dried, clip your clothespins onto the twine running across your board.

6. Add socks!

We hope you enjoyed making this DIY. What did you write on your Lost Socks Board? Let us know in the comments!
